In late 1979, excavation and construction work commenced at Garbala Drive, Strathpine and was to become the site for a new school. Originally the school was to be called 'Pine Park State School' but this name was met with unfavourable reactions. Rob Akers (politician), Ron Westaway (first principal) and a number of community-minded citizens wanted the school's name to reflect its locality so after many discussions with the Department of Education, this new school was officially registered as Strathpine West State School.
The school opened in 1981. The first buildings to be constructed on the site were the administration building, prep building and amenities block. As time progressed, more classroom buildings were added, including the creation of a large oval on which the students could play.
If you were a past student, parent or staff member and have photographs of the school during its early years we would very much appreciate copies of the photographs you have. If you have accurate historical information which we can add to this page, please send your information to the admin@strathpinewestss.eq.edu.au
We hope you enjoy viewing the photographs below of our 'early years' at Strathpine West State School.
